Saudi Arabia is interested in investing in Bangladesh, said Khalid Al Falih, the country’s investment minister. He said Bangladesh has an investment-friendly environment. Rahman requested to finalize the draft memorandum of understanding to create opportunities for Saudi investment in public-private partnership. The Adviser to the Prime Minister further said that if the MoU is signed, Saudi investment opportunities will be created in various sectors including infrastructure in Bangladesh.

Highlighting the importance of exchanging delegations between businessmen of the two countries, Salman F. Rahman requested the Saudi Minister of Investment to attend the International Investment Summit to be held in Bangladesh on November 26 and 29.


At the time, the Saudi investment minister said the memorandum of understanding was in its final stages and would be signed soon. Saudi Minister Khalid al-Falih stressed the importance of signing cooperation agreements or memoranda of understanding on sectoral investment in specialized economic zones.


Highlighting the importance of exchanging delegations between businessmen of the two countries, Salman F. Rahman requested the Saudi Minister of Investment to attend the International Investment Summit to be held in Bangladesh on November 26 and 29.


Earlier on Sunday, Salman F. Rahman had a meeting with Saudi Transport Minister Saleh Al Jasser. During the meeting, he hoped for Saudi investment in the construction of a railway line from Dhaka to Payra Port. He added that a memorandum of understanding could be signed between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia to increase cooperation in the transport sector. At that time, the Saudi Minister of Transport assured his full cooperation.

Besides, Salman F Rahman, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Private Industry and Investment, also met the leaders of the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce on Sunday. At the time, he said, Saudi-Bangladesh relations have reached new heights through Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s official visit to Saudi Arabia from 2016 to 2019. New doors of trade and investment have been opened with Bangladesh.


Adviser to the Prime Minister said Bangladesh currently trades 1.3 billion with Saudi Arabia. He emphasized on increasing it further. The adviser emphasized the importance of bilateral visits and meetings between the two countries’ chamber leaders. In addition, the Saudi Federation of Chambers of Commerce expressed interest in amending the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two countries’ Chambers of Commerce in 2005.

The meeting was also attended by the Ambassador of Bangladesh to Saudi Arabia Mohammad Jabed Patwari, the Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority visiting Saudi Arabia. Sirajul Islam, Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority Sheikh Yusuf Harun and Chief Executive Officer (Secretary) of Bangladesh Public-Private Partnership Authority Sultana Afroz.

He also welcomed the investment proposal of Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea Gateway Terminal Company at the container terminal under construction at Patenga in Chittagong. He also hoped for Saudi investment in the construction of a railway line from Dhaka to Pigeon Port. He added that a memorandum of understanding could be signed between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia to increase cooperation in the transport sector.
